The console is fun and I'd rate it 4/5. The larger screen is crisp and and looks great, although a screen protector is a must since the factory screen has a soft plastic laminate that scratches easily when docking it. 4K HDR looks great when connected to a OLED TV. Performance: Mario Kart World plays perfectly. The frame rates in Zelda games are fixed: Tears of the Kingdom NS2 Edition and the free upgrade for Link's Awakening run smoothly. The eShop is also much smoother on the Switch 2 compared to the original Switch. NSO N64 games are now rewindable and also gain a visual filter to mimic a CRT display. User interface: the hardware and software are very similar to the original Switch's. The Joy-Con controllers will be immediately familiar with a few changes: they're larger, they magnetically attach to the console, and you can use them like a computer mouse. The right Joy-Con's IR sensor has been removed, very few games will miss it. The Switch 2's home screen is also like the original's with some design tweaks like rainbow-colored button borders and new options for HDR and battery preservation in the Settings menu. Negatives: battery life is about 2-3 hours less than the original. Expect 2-6 hours of play depending on the game, brightness, and Wi-Fi. The screen has a scratchable plastic layer, as mentioned, but this can be addressed with a glass screen protector. The Joy-Con 2's are not especially comfortable compared to, say, the PS5 DualSense, but this too can be addressed with a Switch 2 Pro Controller. The Switch 2 is an evolution of the original Switch. Gone are the days when there's a massive jump in capabilities between console generations. However, the changes are mostly positives including a faster chip, bigger and clearer screen, mouse controls, and a much better kickstand. It is what it claims to be: a Nintendo Switch 2. HOWEVER... Target's preorder process is the worst I've experienced for consoles going back to the Game Boy Advance. The point of a preorder to me is to guarantee a unit on launch day. Target is shipping the unit but it's scheduled to arrive 5 to 6 days late. It's possible Nintendo restricted retailers from shipping units before the launch date. However, Target could have offered in-store pickup (like another "B"ig "B"ox electronics retailer), done same-day delivery (like another "W"ell-known superstore), or used next-day FedEx shipping (also like said superstore). Instead, Target used the slowest shipping option FedEx offers. I've communicated this to Target's customer service and they offered a $10 refund, which is nice and appreciated. However, they should prioritize their preorder customers for the next console launch.
