There is a lot to love about this mower and very little to dislike. I am comparing it to a Craftsman 5.5hp gas mower I've had for years and my daughter "borrowed" for her new house. The Craftsman always started and I used nothing but ethanol-free fuel in it. It was easy to maneuver and tough as nails. I have hit a lot of rocks and tree roots and never had an issue. I sharpen the blade every spring. This new Hart mower was not my first choice. What I don't like about it is that it is self-propelled. On a normal yard that is square, the system works perfectly with easy variable speed. It's a good system. For normal yards. Mine is a double lot on a slope with tons of irregular shapes and areas that need a lot of short back and forth mowing with corrections. The self-propelled system, when disengaged, still adds resistance and there is the occasional plastic clicking sound when pulling back that is worrisome. Why did I buy the self-propelled? Because when I searched online, the Walmart website showed that the $298 mower without the system was out of stock at every Walmart in the area. It is Spring in the PNW, so you might get a few hours or a couple of days of nice weather, then it will snow and rain for two or three weeks. Such was the case the first week of April. Everyone was buying mowers and mowing their lawns with the two days of good weather. So, I bought the more expensive one and did a curbside pickup. When I arrived, the mower was brought out on a cart after about 20 minutes due to poor communication among associates. Finally, I get out to my vehicle and get it loaded and mentioned to the associate that I really wanted the cheaper one, but they were sold out. She informed me that they actually had a couple left and they had just arrived yesterday. The website was wrong. I should have just returned it and gotten the cheaper one, but I only had a few hours of good weather left to mow. I got it home and it was easy to assemble. It took about two hours for the battery to charge to 100%. I did as much as I could with my riding mower while the battery charged up. With the Craftsman, I was always having to stop and clean out the discharge chute, and when using the rear bag, it would barely fill it half full before it clogged up and had to be removed, shaken and reattached. I would have to stop and re-start the mower probably a couple of dozen times. The Hart is so much better! It clogged up on some tall, wet grass once. The rear bag fills almost to capacity before it starts mulching. Very happy with it! Plenty of power and outperformed the Craftsman in nearly every way. But, it does seem a bit flimsy with plastic gears, so it remains to be seen if it can hold up to abuse. Another awesome feature is that when done mowing, the handle easily folds over and you can store the lawn mower upright, saving a ton of space in my shed.
