Fjallraven Kanken Backpack

Straight backs are happy backs! Kånken was created as early as 1978 to help prevent back problems among Swedish schoolchildren and quickly became commonplace in preschools and nature schools across the country. Today, 35 years later, Kånken has straightened millions of backs around the world and has become one of Fjällräven's most beloved products. This classic backpack is suitable for both trips to and from school or work, as well as hiking and traveling. The material is durable, lightweight F Vinyl fabric that is able to withstand dirt and moisture. The spacious main compartment has a large zipper opening, making it easy to load and unload the backpack. It has two flat side pockets and a zipper pocket on the front, perfect for those bits and bobs you want to keep close at hand. The included PE foam seat cushion stores in the interior back pocket, where it prevents the backpack's contents from banging against your back, and is always within reach for when you need to take a break and sit down, whether you're where you are. The carrying system is simple but practical and consists of handles on the top and thin, adjustable shoulder straps. The logo on the front is reflective. It also has an address label inside the main compartment.

A couple of years ago I bought a bag, from a huge online retailer, which was very clearly a replica of the Fjallraven bags. I have found myself using a lot and decided to treat myself to the genuine article. What a disappointment. The genuine bag is small, thin, lacks any useful pockets or compartments inside, has non-padded straps, and is overall just a much worse product than the one that it was supposed to replace. The lack of pockets and compartments is a real deal breaker for me. I don't want to just throw allbof my items into a bag and hope for the best. I want some organisation and order. My cheaper bag has pockets galore and is genuinely fantastic. This bag is much smaller than I imagined it would be. It wouldn't hold a laptop any larger than a very thin, very small ultrabook. My Kindle Scribe and 12" tablet are just about the limit in terms of footprint. The material of the bag isn't very nice at all. It's like a tent that's been left to go stiff. The straps aren't padded, making them quite uncomfortable, and the button/studs are really quite poor. I don't believe that the Fjallraven would last half as long as it's competitor (which was less than a quarter the full price of the Fjallraven) out in the real world. This bag just has no benefits, no features. No pros or upsides. I can't think of a single alternative that I wouldn't recommend over the Fjallraven. In short: save your money. Either buy a much cheaper alternative, or buy a different brand. I don't think I'll ever even consider a Fjallraven product after this experience. Really disappointed.
