Sony XB100 Compact Bluetooth Wireless Speaker

A couple of days ago, I noticed Walmart had the Sony SRS-XB100 Wireless Speaker on sale for about $30 less than Amazon.ca. I normally don't buy audio gear without first having a listen, but since Walmart has an easy return policy, I thought I'd order one. It's an amazing little speaker - tons of non-flubby bass and fairly accurate high-end - and it can produce a fairly decent volume level, especially given it's compact size. The specs rate it as having a 2 watt RMS power output at no more than 1% harmonic distortion - which is really excellent for such a tiny unit. I noticed some negative comments about this cool little unit: one of which complained about the non-removable strap blocking the bass port - well, there are four bass ports, and the strap can hardly block one completely, and since bass tones are non-directional - it was a comment not grounded in reality. Other complaints were just as unfounded, and I feel sorry for the Sony rep who has to contact the commenters to resolve their non-existent problems.. I experienced no Bluetooth troubles whatsoever, it charges quickly and runs for hours. This speaker has a really nice sound, very smooth - but it's meant for personal listening, not raising the roof!! Which in my case is a perfect tradeoff. It's size allows it to fit anywhere: bedside table, desk, etc. and of course, it's highly portable. Also, the design is visually appealing, and it has a soft exterior covering. I highly recommend it - and give it 10 out of ten!!
