Over the years, I have owned several Keurig Classic brewers. I bought my first B90 in 2007. My coworkers and I even lobbied to get Keurig K-1500 commercial model at work, so I am well-versed in Keurig brewer operation. After I de-scaled my current, well-worn Keurig Classic, it started making horrendous noise while brewing. I like the "Strong" button, the K-1500 offers, so I decided the noise was a good excuse to buy a new Keurig brewer with that feature. The K-Select looks good on paper. It's price is similar to the Keurig Classic. It occupies less kitchen counter space, has a "Strong" button, and has a generous 52 oz. water reservoir. The K-Select also has a matte finish, rather than shiny, piano black, so its control panel is less of a fingerprint magnet. It lacks "Multi-Stream technology," temperature control, ice-coffee brewing, and other features offered by pricier Keurig models, but the "Strong" button was my big want. I ordered a K-Select. I'm sad to report the K-Select is disappointing. First and foremost, the quality is nowhere near what you get with a Keurig Classic! Its overall construction is very flimsy. The water reservoir, in particular, is nowhere near as rugged as the Keurig Classic's. I dropped the reservoir while I was installing the water filter holder. I was shocked to see that's all it took to damage the bottom edge of the reservoir. See included image. Far more durable plastic is used for the Keurig Classic's reservoir. The same is true for the removable travel mug tray. Compared with the Keurig Classic's tray, it feels cheap and flimsy. Also worth mentioning is the K-Select's departure from the usual Keurig brewing operating sequence. When you turn-on the K-Select, you hear the water heating-up. When the sound of water heating dissipates, you expect to see the buttons on the control panel light-up blue. They don't. This is true whether the pod holder is left open or closed. The blue lights only come on when you close the pod holder. Otherwise, there is no indication that the K-Select is ready to brew. I find this odd. In summary, if like I was, you are looking to replace your tried-and-true, workhorse Keurig Classic, look elsewhere. The Keurig K-Select will disappoint you. Either buy another Keurig Classic or spend the extra bucks and get a well-constructed Keurig model with the features the Keurig Classic lacks. I wish I had.
