My husband said he wanted a weighted blanket, and when I studied up on them I got excited. I tend toward anxiety, and the idea of a more restful night's sleep appealed to me. Our comforter was falling apart anyway - so we decided to dispense with a new one and take a chance on two weighted blankets instead. I've been making a concerted effort to buy environmentally friendly products. So I was excited to find Bearaby, especially the Tree Napper, which sounded the comfiest and most sustainable. I was concerned two blankets in different sizes might be an odd look on our bed, but decided if they were the same color, I could embrace the unique look. It's always tough to convey color on the Internet, and I knew it might not look the same in my home. So I was not upset by this, but just a bit disappointed that the color had less of the golden/amber glow I saw online and more of an olive/rust tint in our room - which was not an optimal match with my decor. I was tempted to exchange it for the Rosemary, but even though it wasn't what I planned, it was so pretty I decided not to risk the same issue with another color. In any case, the blankets are gorgeous to the look and touch. The quality of the handwork is evident. I thought they looked lovely side by side, even with one ever-so-slightly larger than the other - the room looked more bohemian but also more luxurious. After our first night sleep - I'm not exaggerating - I woke up more relaxed than I have in years! My attitude was better all day. I had no expectation or thought that a weighted blanket would offer relief from back pain, but by day two I realized the back pain I'd been waking up with for years had all but vanished. I'm not saying the blanket cured me, sometimes at the end of a long day my back still hurts, but then I'm eager to go to bed because I always feel better after sleeping under my Tree Napper. The natural holes created by the knitted material are a mixed blessing. On one hand, they do make for a cooler night's sleep - I sometimes get night-sweats so I love this feature. However, both my husband and I noticed that when the room was at its coldest in the wee hours, the chilly air seeping through was waking us up. So we pulled out our old lightweight summer coverlet and threw it over both blankets. It doesn't match the blankets, so we'll probably get a new one. It's too bad because the Tree Nappers are so beautiful, I hate to cover them. I was leery about adding weight on top of an already weighted blanket because I'm pretty small, but the coverlet doesn't weigh much and it seems to work fine. And I still feel like I'm benefiting from the breathability of the woven holes. I'll come back to let folks know if adding a coverlet still does the trick in winter. My confidence is high because the blanket material itself is thick and cozy, so it's more a matter of trapping air to hold in the warmth they already provide. I've shared a lot here, but I hope one thing shines through: We LOVE our Tree Nappers. It's a new way of sleeping for us, and whatever adjustments we've had to make to, they've been more than worth it!
