Skyrim is an epic fantasy adventure caught in between the cage of a case. It’s charming visuals lend life to a polygon based fantasy world, the game can have its own bugs, what with it being quite old as a game itself. However, those inconsistencies often can add to the charm. The DLC is a fun addition to the story, the Dragonborn tests the PC against Skyrim’s historical equal. Dawnguard opens a new aspect of conflict dealing with vampires, whilst the storylines could maybe do with some character development it leads to some epic scenarios and climaxes. Hearth fire is the addition I haven’t played as much but it allows for a wholesome family setting if a player wishes. The base game is classic, I will say however that the amount of dragons interrupting leisurely map-based strolls can be a mild irritant when the music kicks in ruining a rather pleasant walk. Quests such as the Mages Guild, the Thieves Guild and the Stormcloak x Empire war are also welcome fun departures. Whilst gameplay can feel repetitive at times, especially in combat, if the player’s imagination is captured that will matter less and less. There is also the use of magic builds rather than physical that can spice up fights if necessary. Overall Skyrim is an epic quest of a game with hours of fun for most players. And I think there is a humility to it’s age, graphics and bugs that I find (personally and from quite a bias) endearing. Very glad I purchased this game.
