Artisan finished barnwood hand hewn fireplace mantel and heavy duty mounting bracket. The back of the hand hewn is routed out and pre-drilled for the bracket. Wood Origin These handcrafted fireplace mantels are made from authentic reclaimed hand hewn barn beams salvaged from historic barns throughout the Eastern United States dating from the 1700's to the early 1900's. Popular locations include Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Ohio and Kentucky. Characteristics Checking (a natural characteristic of wood), knots, nail holes, hewing/axe marks, mortise pockets, peg holes, and worm holes. Almost all Hand Hewn Mantels will have Checking and Mortise Pockets and ALL will have Axe Markings. Dimensions Available sizes include 6 to 8 inch thickness by 6 to 8 inch depth. Lengths are available from 48 to 84 inches (custom sizes available). Thickness and depth can vary up to 1 inch. If you order more than one we will do our best to match if requested. Each piece is DIFFERENT; meaning that no two are the same. This is because each craftsman had their own unique style of hewing a log. Remember these were round logs HAND CUT into square beams. Each and every shelf is unique with many grain variations, knots, worm holes, checks, nail holes, notches, mortise pockets, etc. Wood Species of product will vary from piece to piece. The ends will always be cut, sanded completely smooth and left natural. It is important to understand that dimensional variations will exist from piece to piece. The overall length will be cut to your specified length, however, the Height x Depth dimension MAY vary.
